What you wished existed
from day one

Having Haywire on our side let us
move fast without sacrificing quality at the critical early stages of development.
Who are the engineers?
Haywire is a one-man operation. There isn’t a team of engineers or subcontractors. You’ll work directly with Tom throughout the entire design lifetime.
Where are you based?
Haywire is based in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Travel is frequent to visit clients requiring onsite assistance for bringup and testing.
Do you need a device specification?
Only if you want to. I don’t require it and very often discourage it. Let’s just chat through what you need and I’ll get started.
What program do you design in?
Almost always Altium Designer.
How long does a design take?
Typically 8 weeks from initial call to shipped boards.
How does billing work?
I simply charge per hour and invoice monthly with payment being ACH or CC. Some teams need a fixed monthly cost, and I can make arrangements accordingly.
How do we communicate mid-project?
Very flexible here. Typically clients prefer Slack and Confluence, but I have no preference.
Do you integrate into our team?
Absolutely. Whether it’s standup calls, team meetings or vulgar. I’m here for it.
What equipment do you have in your lab?
Everything I need and nothing I don’t — soldering and hot air stations, oscilloscope, precision and high current power supplies, spectrum analyzer + hi-pot tester as well as 3D printing capabilities.
Can I send design files to make boards?
Absolutely, especially if you need them fast.
What volumes can your SMT line support?
Optimized for x10 to many x1000s.
Do you work in power electronics?
I do. I’ve developed a number of sub-10kW level ACDC/DCDC converters and controllers in the past.
Do you provide firmware support?
I can, if the need is there.
